Today is September 1st, which means the first ever Caitidid Designs' Summer Reading Pledge is officially OVAH. Let's all give ourselves a round of applause for making the commitment to reading throughout this summer season! *Clap, clap, clap.*
My main goal was to make a public commitment to get back into reading. Not only was I successful with that, but I had some wonderful people join in along the way. Thanks to everyone who participated! I enjoyed the comments on my summer reading posts, I loved reading the reviews that some of you posted on your own blogs, and I really appreciate everyone who shared word about the pledge by posting a button on your blog.
To wrap up my Summer Reading Pledge, I'm offering up a giveaway of a $30 Amazon gift card! Rules: Just comment below with the name of the best book you read this summer. Tweet or blog about this giveaway for one additional entry (just add a separate comment with a link to your post).
Now, please note that this giveaway is open to book lovers of all kinds, not just those who publicly participated in my Pledge. BUT! if you DID happen to be one of the original supporters of my Summer Reading Pledge (either by commenting on one of my book posts or through a post on your blog), you are eligible for an additional entry if you post a separate comment with a link to the original post you commented on or wrote.
I will do a random drawing on September 9th to select a winner!
Thank you all again for reading along with me!

Yay we did it!!! :) this was awesome encouragement, Caiti! I have been reading while I eat breakfast every morning and it is something I look forward to every day now. I think I'll keep it as a tradition! So relaxing. I'm midway through "Half Broke Horses" and it is really good.
ReplyDeleteMy fave book of the summer was The Glass Castle! I couldn't put it down. Second fave was Black Heels to Tractor Wheels by Ree Drummond.

ReplyDeleteI tweeted about the giveaway =)
ReplyDeleteOne of the best books I read this summer was "What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarty - a really fun read! I also liked "Before I Go to Sleep" by SJ Watson.
ReplyDeletehurrah! I read 14.5 books this summer ... some were new to me, some were re-reads ....
ReplyDeleteBut I really enjoyed reading Bird by Bird by Anne Lammott
Thanks!
I read some really good books this summer. It's hard to chose the best one. This may be the halo effect kicking in, but I'm going to say "The Wilder Life" was my favourite of the summer. I am now planning on re-reading the Little House Series.
ReplyDeleteI was a participant in your pledge, here is the link to my first blog post about the challenge:

Congratulations to all who made or exceeded their summer reading goal.
Even though I was a bit behind everyone else, I wanted to read the book before the movie and so glad I did. Reading "The Help" was a reading highlight of the summer! What a great book!
ReplyDeleteTweeted about the giveaway!

The Beekeepers Apprentice by Laurie R. King. I loved how she took an iconic literary figure (Sherlock Holmes) & relegated him to a side character, while adding a young woman of his equal intelligence as his sidekick & the main character. There is a whole series & I just bought them all. Light, fun summer reading. And best of all, made me excited to stat reading again. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI have reads TONS of books this summer - I would say the best ones (in terms of being captivating) were the Sookie Stackhouse novels - my favorite one being "Dead to the World." Brain-wise, I re-read "The Dispossesed" by Ursula K Le Guin, and I loved it just as much as the first time :)
ReplyDeleteI read couple of health and beauty books...I love the Beauty Detox Diet and I also read The Help so I could see the movie, but I haven't seen the movie at all. lol! How crazy!
ReplyDeleteI ended up surpassing my goal! I read 11 books this summer. My favorite was The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
ReplyDeleteI pledged to read 10 books in my blog post here: http://tobefrankblog.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/for-the-love-of-books/.
ReplyDelete(I'm not sure if it would've been easier for you if I did all three entries in one comment, but I assumed you wanted seperate comments, sorry if you didn't!)
Lastly, I wrote about the giveway here, where I also review the last few books I read this summer: http://tobefrankblog.wordpress.com/2011/09/01/finale-of-summer-reading-pledge/
ReplyDeleteI read a lot this summer! The best one I read was probably "Alice, I Have Been". Not that it's a happy sunshine filled book, but it was one that I couldn't put down and it was pretty thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteThe best book I read was the Hunger Games.

The book I could not put down was The Help!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed participating in a reading challenge! It was awesome. I finished 18 books. :) I'm posting a recap of all of them tomorrow on my blog.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book...I guess I would say The Hunger Games trilogy. I read through them all in one weekend on the e-reader. It was nice to finish one at 10:30 and download the next one.
Here's where I first commented on the pledge. :)

I wish I would have read "The Help"! My sister said is was soooo good. I just saw the movie and I thought it was really good. My favorite cook book I read this summer was "The Kind Diet". I am now very curious about macrobiotic diets. I still have a little ways to go on "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle."
ReplyDeleteI read and highly recommend "The Age of Miracles" by Marianne Williamson. It is absolutely wonderful! I'm not at middle age yet but this book is for women of any age. It's one of those books you will return to time and time again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I don't read a lot of new stuff, so the best thing I read was probably Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence!
